Kylie Minogue's sound has progressed again since the disco-inspired Light Years, plundering the retro style of post-disco electro from the late 1970s and showing what might have happened if Kraftwerk had produced Donna Summer or Chic. Unlike most pop albums, or indeed pop artists, Fever is geared toward high-energy dance rather than pedestrian 'I love lovin' you' ballads. Aside from the aforementioned hit single, another standout is 'Give It to Me,' a great piece of dance pop that has everything from Britney-style wailings to Basement Jaxx funk wrapped up with a catchy and typically suggestive chorus. The closest Minogue gets to a gentler moment is at the very end with 'Burning Up,' a breezy guitar progression with a laid-back melody, but it doesn't last long as the need to start dancing again takes hold and Fever breaks into some electro funk, finishing on a definite high.
Buyer Reviews : To be completely honest, I had never heard of Kylie Minogue until her track, 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' starting getting radio play. My friend bought the album for the song (Can't Get You Out of My Head) and we were listening to it in his car and I couldn't get over how awesome the songs were, it was like a mixture of 80's tunes mixed with techno pop. As soon as I heard the title track 'Fever', I had to have this album. Since I bought it about two weeks ago, I have yet to set aside and switch to something else. Its like a drug, I need it! haha All the songs on FEVER are dance tunes, it never slows down, the calmer dance songs are very trance-like and beautiful. The more you listen to the songs, the more they grow on you. There isn't a song on the album that I dislike, they're very catchy. Pick this CD up for your collection if you haven't yet, its definitely worth it!
