Led by the single 'I'm a Slave 4 U,' a Neptunes-helmed piece of electrofunk that promises she'll do anything you want as long as it's dancing, the album continues through superior versions of Spears's poses. Calculated frustration with the adult world? Calculated independence? Sheer celebration? Check, check, and check: 'Overprotected,' 'Let Me Be,' and a cover of 'I Love Rock & Roll' that brings to mind its bubblegum roots. Even without the joyous disco tribute of 'Anticipating' and the not-icky ballad 'I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman' providing symbolic respite from the rest of this machine-tooled music, Britney is one of the most human discs of the current teen-pop boom. If it spins off the deserved string of radio/video smashes, it may even buy this superstar a second 15 minutes.
Buyer Reviews : 'All you people look at me like I'm a little girl...did you ever think it'd be okay for me to step into this world.' Britney Spears sings on 'I'm a Slave 4 U' off her third album self-titled 'Britney' released November 6th. This album is a reflection inside the mind of the pop queen herself because Britney co-wrote 5 of the 12 tracks. Not only does this CD show Britney's musical evolution into a new sound- making it funkier and edgier, but her vocals on this CD are also absolutely amazing. The best tracks are 'Overprotected,' 'Let me Be,' 'Lonely' and 'What its Like to Be Me.' Britney's innovative CD by far surpasses her two previous albums. She recorded 23 tracks for 'Britney' before choosing the best 12. The CD itself is approximately 39 minutes long and when inserted into the computer one may see the outtakes from Britney's new movie 'Crossroads' to the tune of her second track on the album, 'Overprotected.' Also included in the CD is a mini poster autographed by Britney, which is stapled inside the booklet. In the booklet, the lyrics are printed for 'I'm Not a Girl.' Overall, 'Britney' will probably be one of the greatest releases of the year, especially for a female artist. Spears proves she will always be queen of the pop world with this album. She is by far one of the most talented in the industry and is clearly taking pop music to the next level by experimenting with different sounds and styles.
Review of the First Five Tracks on Britney:
'I'm a Slave 4 U' is not Britney's best on the album, but was a good first single because it showed off Britney's new style. It is a song about a love for dancing and music and was produced by the Neptunes. Britney is no longer a little girl so people are just going to have to grow with her as she herself grew as an artist on this track and on the rest of the album. The second song on the album is 'Overprotected.' It too has a great beat to it and might possibly be the third single off the CD. Rami and Max Martin wrote it. Martin also wrote Britney's biggest hit to date Baby One More Time... In Overprotected, Britney sings about herself being sheltered from the world and how she just wants to try things out for herself and not be told what to do. 'I need to make mistakes just to learn who I am - And I don't wanna be so damn protected!' The third track on the album is 'Lonely' which is one that Britney co-wrote. Its a good song and sounds as if it was inspired by hip-hop and R&B. Britney sings about not giving in and letting some guy back into her life who plays games because she is better off alone. 'Think of all the times that I took you back...Ain't no way I'll be lonely...I don't wanna let you back in.' 'I'm Not a Girl' will be Britney's second single off the album and Dido co-wrote it. It provides for easy listening and is suppose to be the big hit ballad that goes with her movie. The song shows off Britney's voice. Britney even said in interviews that this song is the most personal for her because it is where she is at in this point of her life. 'I'm not a girl don't tell me what to believe in...I'm just trying to find the woman in me.' However, Britney contradicts herself with I'm Not a Girl because she is telling us she's not a girl, but then sings '...this girl will always find her way.' Therefore, referring to herself as a girl, which she also does on several other tracks throughout the album (including ones she wrote.) The next song is 'Boys' which displays Britney's nastier side. The Neptunes also produced this track. The song sounds like something Janet Jackson would sing. On the track, Britney sings about finding a guy at a club and wanting to leave with him and how sometimes all a girl just needs is a guy. 'You're a sexy guy...I'm a nice girl...Let's turn this dance floor into our own little nasty world.' Britney then ends the song by saying, 'Boys ...can't live with em' ...can't live without em'.'
