Scratch the surface and you'll find these Florida soreheads are still mad at the world, but happily able to channel that rage into compelling, brainy head-banging. In fact, it wouldn't be going too far to call them post-alt-metal Beck, what with their collage of disparate sounds and effects and their self-referential declarations, mimicking the diminutive singer's early outings: 'I'm a loner / I'm a loser / I'm a winner in my own mind / I'm a bad one / I'm a good one / I'm a sick one with a smile.' But they're not just a hardened bunch of nihilists. Their bleak worldview is rescued by a staunch sense of self and the quaint but sweet notion of the healing power of love. The affection of a good, but flawed woman is pervasive on the album's 13 tracks. With Scooter Ward's powerful vocals, inventive guitar interplay, and Sam McCandless' nonstop primal bashing, Cold, after 15 years together, are outshining mentors Limp Bizkit. --Jaan Uhelszki
Buyer Reviews : This album will blow you away. If you are tired of all the mainstream fake music out there, then look no futher. Cold's music is brilliant. Year of the Spider is Cold taking it to the next level. Tracks like Cure My Tragedy, Rain Song, Whatever You Became,Remedy and Stupid Girl(My favorite on the cd)are amazing. A definite must have. Spread the Cold! Ok... i have heard the entire 'Year of the Spider' CD, and i love it. Many have critized that the lyrics are too depressing and self-loathing, but in many cases, it helps you feel better by knowing you are not alone. Bringing Cuomo into the songwriting picture, not into actual vocal scene, was a decision due to a writers block of sorts, and it came out flawless. Anyway,i have heard people compair them to Weezer, that is not comparable to the talent of Cold, and the meaning in the music is untouchable. The songs on the CD are well written and arranged, and the lyrics are godlike. These guys have a true love for music and the talent to complement it... i consider it a necessity for any collection. So if you're new to Cold or a long time fan you need this cd in your collection.
