There really isn't a good reason for this album to exist. The previous Rush collections (CHRONICLES & RETROSPECTIVE 1 & 2) cover more ground. There are only 16 tracks on this album, all terrific, of course, but to cover such a large span of Rush's career in 16 songs is a bit crazy! The other 'greatest hits' compilations are at least double albums. It would appear that Mercury, which was Rush's label up through HOLD YOUR FIRE (the final album featured here) is trying to milk a little money out of their past connection with the group.
That being said, it is a great collection of music, an attractive album cover, and the bonus DVD, while short, is a lot of fun too. The video of CLOSER TO THE HEART shows a very young Rush performing the song. That's a hoot! And the other videos, all very primitive by today's standards, are still fun to watch, because Rush has never been 'out there in the public eye' much, and any chance to see them performing is fun. And because they've been around so long, it's fun to see them age a bit...follow the hairstyles! The DVD also contains the lyrics to all the songs on the CD.
I recommend this CD for the casual fan and the avid fan alike.
