After all, their previous album, Make Yourself, was released nearly two years ago. Like fellow Los Angeles metal pioneers System of a Down, Incubus find themselves lumped in with the nu-metal fraternity merely because they're young(ish), angry, and very loud. That's more than a little unfair, because their sound owes more to the clever and creative funk-metal of Faith No More and the Red Hot Chili Peppers than the faux-rap posturing of Limp Bizkit. In fact, songs like 'Nice to Know You,' 'Circles,' and the excellent 'Blood on the Ground' display real maturity. But that's not all that sets Incubus apart: on 'I Wish You Were Here,' 'Just a Phase,' '11 a.m.,' and 'Mexico,' they show an uncharacteristic willingness to tread softly, using acoustic guitars and touches of strings to make less noise, but more impact. Some could call it selling out, but it sounds more like growing up. Morning View is a leap forward for a band that continues to get better with each release.
Buyer Reviews : I started listening to Incubus about 6 months ago. I now own every one of their cds, and by far, this is the best. The production on this album is a work of art in its own right. Every song on here is absolutely amazing. 'Nice To Know You' is a great way to start off the album. 'Wish You Were Here', the million-selling single, is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. It's extremely well written. It has the right amounts of heaviness and softness to it to make it an unforgettable song. 'Echo' is a truly beautiful song. Mike Einziger's guitar work on it is well crafted and Brandon Boyd's vocals are the kind of vocals that can bring tears to your eyes. But, the true masterpiece on this album is 'Aqueous Transmission'. If I remember correctly, it's over 8 minutes long, and this is a great example to show how Incubus is going to go down as being one of the best 'new' bands of the millenium. They experiment with several different instruments and they put it all together to make it sound like somewhat of an epic. If you've been an Incubus fan for a while, or if you are just starting to take notice of them, this is a great album to buy. It perfectly represents what Incubus is all about - making beautiful and amazing music.
