If the first was the work of a poet, its sequel was the statement of a musician and bandleader. Moondance is that rare rock album where the band has buffed the arrangements to perfection, and where the sax solos instead of the guitar. The band puts out a jazzy shuffle on 'Moondance' and plays it soulful on 'These Dreams of You.' The album includes both Morrison's most romantic ballad ('Crazy Love') and his most haunting ('Into the Mystic'). 'And It Stoned Me' rolled off Morrison's tongue like a favorite fable, while 'Caravan' told a tale full of emotional intrigue. Moondance stood out in the rock world of 1970 like a grownup in a kiddie matinee.
Buyer Reviews : Before I heard 'Moondance', I had vaguely heard of Van Morrison, but didn't know any of his songs beside 'Brown-eyed girl'. During a long, grueling road trip, I decided to buy this tape on a whim at a truck stop because it was cheap, and looked interesting. As soon as the music started, I knew I was hearing something special. This album is just pure magic. The songs are a perfect mix of rock, jazz, and even gospel elements, somehow blended into a soulful whole. The whole vibe of the album is just experiencing a perfect warm summer's day. I just cruised with it the whole eight-hour trip, and the miles flew by. And 'Moondance' hasn't left my tapedeck since. Really, if you love music, you'll love this album. I'm so grateful to have been introduced to Van Morrison's artistry, and this album will always rank on my top ten list of all time. (by gringa24)
