Their mix of country, folk, and rock had a harder, grittier edge, and helped define what would become known as the Southern California sound. There was just enough of a country feel in the beautiful harmonies of 'Best of My Love,' to blur the edges between the genres. 'Take It Easy' and 'Lyin' Eyes' could easily have come out of the new Nashville school, as well. The twang that characterizes the guitar intro to 'Already Gone' and the leads in 'Witchy Woman' and 'One of These Nights,' also pays tribute to country's guitar greats. Greatest Hits 1971-1975 houses a scant ten singles, but not only does it illustrate the magic of the collaboration between Glen Frey and Don Henley, it shows the breadth of The Eagles impact on the many who would follow their lead
Buyer Reviews : I am sure all of us know that THEIR GREATEST HITS: 1971-1975 has currently sold more copies in the United States than Michael Jackson's THRILLER- and deservedly so. All of the songs on THEIR GREATEST HITS are still popular on several radio formats today, and they are all arguably timeless classics, unlike some of the tracks from THRILLER. But the real magic about the Eagles' songs here is that they never seem to sound tired through repeated plays- and when on one compilation, the thorough listen is almost priceless.
For those who do not know the record's format yet, THEIR GREATEST HITS contains all nine top 40 hits the Eagles achieved through their first four albums- 'Take it Easy'; 'Witchy Woman'; 'Peaceful, Easy Feeling'; 'Tequila Sunrise'; 'Already Gone'; 'Best of My Love'; 'One of These Nights'; 'Lyin' Eyes'; 'Take it To the Limit'- plus 'Desperado,' one of the best songs never to be released as a single. Of course, diehard fans will probably have a personal favorite or two missing, but the truth is, this collection probably could have not been improved any further. By sticking to a concise format, THEIR GREATEST HITS showcases the Eagles as an adventurous yet consistent band that had the capability of producing singles that were always catchy. And the ten songs here are indeed catchy, if not infectious. Simply put, anybody with even a faint admiration of the Eagles should consider owning this priceless treasure in their music collection.
