It's a warm slice of the vintage soul that's been popularized by artists like D'Angelo and Maxwell, replete with shimmering musical touches--a clavinet here, a Rhodes there. Shand's falsetto often mimics, and at times evokes, soul legends, though his sometimes skinny delivery lacks both the pelvic thrust and the world-on-my-shoulders weight of the genre's finest. Songs like 'Take a Message' are winsome, if wispy, in their romantic sentiments. 'Rocksteady' features lovely instrumentation punctuating Shand's vocals, while the heftier 'Liberate' finds him rebelling against an unnamed enemy (the Mounties?). Pleasant, but not always convincing.
Buyer Reviews : I was catnapping one night and heard this awesome song --I said to myself Maxwell is at it again. I woke up and saw this white guy getting his groove on...playing all the instruments, awesome voice...{Take A Message} was the song. I fell in love with Remy Shand that night. I promised myself that on March 11--the day his cd debuted -I would definitely buy his cd. It was WRITTEN, PRODUCED,ARRANGED,PERFORMED, AND MIXED BY REMY SHAND---A TALENTED AND GIFTED BROTHER. He has captured my heart. His voice is incredible -- His sound is a mixture of Maxwell, Marvin Gaye, Sade, and Al Green--if you like these artists--then you'll like Remy Shand. My favorites are: The Colour Of The Day, Rocksteady, I Met Your Mercy, Looking Back on Vanity, The Mind's Eye and Burning Bridges. My advice to you is to go out and buy Remy Shand--pick up a botttle of Asti, a bottle of orange juice--call your sweetheart and lay back with your mimosa---and ENJOY!!!!!!
