Snoop comes off surprisingly spry on Paid tha Cost, offering one of his best-balanced albums in years. His pimpalistic style is still draped in silk and fur, especially on 'Bo$$ Playa,' 'Suited 'n' Booted,' and 'Ballin'.' But 'I Believe in You' is an unexpectedly sensitive, irony-free love ballad, while Snoop's pairings with the Neptunes and Gang Starr's DJ Premier result in two of his hardest hitting cuts ever, 'From tha Chuuuch to da Palace' and 'The One and Only' respectively. Combine this with his unfettered attack on Suge Knight ('Pimp Slapp'd') and this is a Snoop Dogg charging forward rather than lazily leaning back. Taking the helm at the dawn of the new decade, this old Dogg still has some new tricks.
Buyer Reviews : The first time i heard 'The Chronic' i was hooked on the vocal stylings of this MC. 'Doggystyle' followed and it appeared that things just kept getting better. The second album 'Tha Doggfather' was not an imminent classic but it was definetly a grower with some solid tracks. Then the bad spell came with the association with No Limit! The first was a shocking effort but to his credit he came back very strongly and very promptly with 'Topp Dogg'. The third in the No Limit Trilogy 'Tha Last Meal' had some truly amazing tracks but was let down by some shockers (coincidently, most of these featured Kokane). I think with this effort Snoop is well on the way back to getting BiG again. He has always been an incredible MC but it is time he came into his own and i think he is doing that. On this album The Big Neptizzle certainly help with the jump off single 'From the Church to the Palace' but the best track has to be 'Pimp Slapp'd'! The so-called 'Un-expected Dis Record' is too heavy for words! His attitude on this track alone makes it memorable and puts Suge Knight, former leader of Death Row, right in his place. BACK OF THE NET SNOOP!
