The UK duo's Floetic debut has it all--smooth R&B, soulful jazz, hip-hop, spoken word, supple ballads and a warmth that cradles the listener from beginning to end. In short, it's exquisitely, decidedly feminine. The pair occasional raise the roof with sizzling rhymes and beats, but they clearly place a premium on vibe, evident in Floetic's mostly chilled, after-dark feel. Jill Scott and Michael Jackson have already benefited from Floetry's deft songwriting; Jacko covered Floetry's 'Butterflies' on his Invincible disc. A demo version of that song is included here, but that's the least of the bounty. 'Hello' is pure honey with the women's silky voices braided in harmony while the dreamy, gently gurgling 'Sunshine' is like a soundtrack to a daydream. Comparisons abound (Lauryn Hill-meets-Dionne Warwick as scored by a blunted De La Soul maybe?) but perhaps the best description of Floetic yet unearthed is 'sass and soul.' And, at almost 70 minutes long, it's a steal.
Buyer Reviews : This new one from floetry is definetley not far off from the title of thier cd. They came very strong on this and fans of neo-soul, hip-hop, r+b should check this out. Its like a combination of Jill Scott and Meshell Ndegeocello with the spoken word and rap mixed with strong vocals. From the first track 'Big Ben' it pulls you in to pay attention to vibe that is going on here. The songs im feeling on this are: Big Ben (tight flow and beat to start the cd off with), Floetic( we all know this....introducing the floecist and the songstress. Easily one of the best on the cd), Ms. Stress (Nice slwo jam mixed in with some spoken word), Sunshine(Here is where ths songstress gets to shine....Soulful R+B), Mr. Messed up (Tight beat that can easily be another single), Headache(dont be fooled by the name....u will be pressing repeat on this), If I was a bird(one of the smoothest slow jams here that you could easily keep on repeat), Subliminal( This one is different and has you thinking because it combines spoken word, song and a lil opera all in one....not possible?..then just listen), and Butterflies(we all know this but this duo is the brains behind this hit from michael...already proving themselves big). Overall this is one of the strongest debuets to come out for 2002. We had a lot of good albums this year and this one just adds to the list. After listening to this cd you will have to do just what they say in floetic...'Once you hear it then....u have to get it'. Enough said....get it!
