With her second album, Aguilera allows it to flower by abandoning all pretense at courting the teenage market. Stripped is a seemingly effortless move into weightier adult territory. Using her extraordinary voice as a much subtler instrument, Aguilera sings movingly and with grit and anger about the disintegration of a relationship; she's ultimately stronger for the pain. But that's not her whole agenda. Aguilera also extols the power of women on 'Can't Hold Us Down,' which features Lil' Kim. Other guests include Dave Navarro, Redman, and Alicia Keys. Aguilera cowrote most of the songs on the disc and produced one cut. She also partnered with former 4 Non Blondes leader and Pink collaborator Linda Perry on four songs, which gives Aguilera a rock edge that she has never before displayed.
Buyer Reviews : Being a huge fan of Christina Aguilera's,...The explicit 'Rolling Stone' magazine cover, the raunchy 'Dirrty' video (being banned in Thailand, no less), her VMA outfit amongst other stunts has contributed to the public becoming more aware of Ms. Aguilera's celebrity..now whether thats a good or bad thing is open for debate. But bad publicity is still publicity nonetheless. However, what I'm afraid of is that in the ensuing scandal and criticism over Christina's naughty girl antics, 'Stripped' will either get overlooked or even completely ignored. This CD is simply put the best CD from a solo female artist this year, Christina was smart to take her time and really delve into her artistry for her official followup to her worldwide smash debut 'Christina Aguilera'. STRIPPED covers a wide range of musical styles, shifting from rock (Fighter & Make Over), latin pop (Infatuation), soulful ballads (Walk Away & Loving Me 4 Me), bluesy R&B (Alicia Key's collaboration Impossible), hip-hop pop (Dirrty & Can't Hold Us Down) and even gospel/inspirational pop (Soar & The Voice Within) and Xtina even takes on the power rock ballad (in the form of the riveting Cruz). And the blend is pure genius, Christina Aguilera has the voice of an angel and she has more than proven that she can sing ANY type of music and do it with passion and intensity. The limited chart success of 'Dirrty' can be contributed to a lot of things even though it does seem strange that a performer who had 4 #1 songs out of the last 5 single releases can't even crack the top 40. STRIPPED will endure I believe, because it is simply a wonderful album and Christina sings her heart out and doesn't go over the top with vocal histronics, something she's been guilty of on rare occasions in the past. With silky instrumentation, unique vocal arrangements as well as powerful and thought provoking lyrics, STRIPPED is good for the soul as well as the mind. Surefire hit songs, awaiting a chance to explode on radio and the charts are the heartfelt 'Beautiful' which explores self-worth and others power to influence the way one feels about themselves, sounding like a cross between Alanis Morrissette and the Beatles, this song could possibly be Christina's biggest hit since 'Genie In A Bottle'. 'Get Mine, Get Yours' also springs to mind as single potential with its sing along chorus and striking melody & lyrics, Ms Aguilera is giving 'em what they want. Also the Alicia Keys collaboration 'Impossible' is a wonderful, soulful, bluesy ballad that only gets better with repeated listens. Christina Aguilera has certainly delivered and even though her image is now getting more attention than her music, with 1 listen to STRIPPED, its crystal clear that Aguilera is a talented singer-songwriter/budding producer and her talent will not be ignored. Christina, to quote from an old 80's hit, 'you don't have to take your clothes off to have a good time', STRIPPED provides all the thrills and excitement any fan needs.
