Self-professed skate punk Avril Lavigne sings that she'd 'rather be anything but ordinary' on her debut. While the fact that she had a record deal by the age of 16 separates her from the pack, too often Let Go's lyrical shortcomings drag the teenager's musically impressive recording entrée into the realm of the typical. The catchy choruses of Go are substantial, though, thanks to Lavigne's riff-driven melodies and powerful vocals, which at times adopt the unorthodox intonation quirks of fellow Canadian Alanis Morrissette. The nuanced, dynamic 'Losing Grip,' 'My World' (which perfectly captures the ennui of suburbia), and the buoyant power-pop blast 'Sk8er Boi' are the collection's highlights. But Lavigne's honest yet awkward words weigh down the likes of 'Mobile,' 'I'm with You,' and 'Naked.' 'Nobody's Fool,' which displays her Pink-like take-me-as-I-am credo, hints that someday Lavigne's lyrics will match the strength of her music.

I am a huge fan of music... not just rock or pop but all music. After a while though bands start to sound so much like each other. You can't tell the dfference between Default or Hoobastank, or between Britney and whoever else she is up against. I turned on MTV one day and saw the video for Complicated and I was amazed. There was this girl on tv not flaunting herseld and singing better htan anyone out in a long time. She put so much soal into her music and I could tell from the very begining that she would go a long way. This is a cd that you can pop in and listen to every song because each song is amazing in it's own special way. All of Avril's songs differ from each other which is hard to do. The songs are so differenct that I can'teven classify a genre for her music. THat's all it is... music. I haven't seen or heard of anything like that since the Beatles. That's huge! And I kjnow that I'm not the only one who has seen it.
