On A New Day Has Come, the big production numbers most associated with the Canadian superstar's name ('My Heart Will Go On,' 'Because You Loved Me') are evoked by the two versions of 'I Surrender' and somewhat lifeless covers of 'At Last' and 'Nature Boy.' At the same time, though, Dion shows her willingness to stretch on the classic-house homage 'Sorry for Love' and the unavoidably catchy 'Right in Front of You' and 'Ten Days.' The album's unexpected, often low-key production allows Dion to emote in a straightforward way that gracefully skirts the chest thumping of past days, and the relative subtlety works in her favor. Still, New Day will hardly prove a shocker for her many fans. Crowning the conservative Dion a forward-thinking diva seems a bit premature, but this agreeable record opens the door to such a possibility.
Buyer Reviews : I am in no way a fan of Celine Dion but on occassion I do enjoy her music. I was really impressed with her Decades album which was filled with some of her biggest hits along with a slew of new songs but this album was sort of a disappointment. 'I'm Alive' has a nice dance beat with uplifting lyrics while 'Right In Front Of You' is equally enjoyable with a beautiful string-filled beginning with a mid-tempo beat but songs like 'Have You Ever Been In Love' just ruined it for me. It's a boring love song with a slow r&b beat that's taken from some other song, I'm sure. 'Rain, Tax (It's Inevaitable)' is a another horrible song with a heavy pop beat. She's trying to be like Britney Spears here and it just doesn't work. She should stick with songs like 'A New Day Has Come' and 'When The Wrong One Loves You Right.' They work much better with her voice so that they complement rather than mar each other. On 'Ten Days' she also attempts at signing soulful rock but passionate ballads like 'The Greatest Reward' and 'I Surrender' are much better listens among this album of hits and misses. The highlight of this album, though, would have to be the jazzy remake of 'Nature Boy' which is just incredible. When I first heard that song I knew that I had to have it. A lot of people have reworked that song but this version triumphs above all. She also attempts another remake with 'At Last' - though to little avail. It's not bad it's just not as good as some other versions I've heard in the past. So as you can see, this album is a miss and hit situation. There are some really good songs on here like the Cher-esqued 'Sorry For Love' but there are also some dreadful disasters here like 'Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)'. Overall, though, I still recommend this album. Buy it used if you have to just get it for the good ones. I also don't think that this album is meant to be taken as seriously as her others, so don't take it so seriously. She just had a baby and her marriage seems as good as ever so why in the world would she sing sad, depressing songs? She just gave life to someone so it's only natural for her to have fun with this album by letting all cares be had. And before I forget to mention, this whole copy protection thing must not be featured on all the CDs because I've played this several times on my computer with no problems whatsoever. I also burned a song from this album once and it worked just fine. I bought mine at Best Buy so maybe you should get yours there...
