Luis Miguel is to be admired for his steadfast homage to the classic Mexican bolero, the romantic ballad that emerged in the 1950s. Over the course of 10 years, he produced four albums of bolero remakes, and introduced them to new generations of music fans. But enough was enough. With 33, Luis Miguel returns to the torchy pop ballads that were his forte before his bolero phase. It's good to report that Miguel is in great shape. He plumbs emotional depths on the classy 'Un Te Amo,' where a lover appreciates small blessings, and 'Devuelveme el Amor,' on visiting old friends, solitude, and desperation. But it's not all gloomy. Dance fun is evoked on 'Te Necesito,' with its fingersnapping beats and backing vocals by Take 6, and 'Con Tus Besos,' with its thrilling big horns, crisp percussions, and energetic singalong choruses. Production values are excellent throughout, and Luis Miguel's vocals are full, strong, and emotive. Songwriters include Armando Manzanero, Juan Luis Guerra, and Kike Santander. This 11-track CD is convincing proof that even at 33, Luis Miguel is still at the top of his game. --Ramiro Burr

Ayer escuché por primera vez '33', definitivamente me encantó, llenó mis expectativas, al principio pensé, luego de saber que el disco contenía varias canciones compuestas por Armando Manzanero, que sería una imitación de sus Romances, sin embargo no fue así, fue una delicia escucharlo. Una de mis favoritas es 'Un te amo', es bella, sencillamente perfecta. Como dominicana me siento orgullosa de que su primer sencillo fuese 'Te necesito' de nuestro Juan Luis Guerra, tiene un ritmo diferente a las demás canciones y por eso precisamente sobresale. Me fascinó 'Que tristeza', es desgarradora y muy triste, pero en su voz es simplemente magnífica; 'Nos hizo falta tiempo' me encantó.
Es un álbum sin desperdicios. Luis Miguel, como siempre, está divino, su voz sólo mejora con el tiempo, la selección de canciones no pudo ser mejor. '33' no es un disco para oírlo una sola vez, sus melodías no permitirán eso, por el contrario, nos obligarán a escucharlo miles de veces.
Luis Miguel no es sólo el Sol de México es el Sol de todos.
