Veteran backup guitarist Kevin 'Keb' Mo'' Moore has the freshest approach to pulling it off, turning Johnson's devil-obsessed classics 'Come on in My Kitchen' and 'Kindhearted Woman Blues' into friendly folk music on this 1994 debut. Unlike many of the great bluesmen, the personable Moore doesn't aspire to be evil or even rebellious; he writes terrific songs (most notably the opening 'Every Morning' and 'Dirty Low Down and Bad') and performs them with talent and charisma.
Buyer Reviews : I discovered Keb Mo several years ago at a live show...I am not a huge blues fan, but absolutely adore this CD. I am actually buying my fourth copy tonight. At the risk of ticking off the true blues fans who also love this CD, I would call this album 'light blues', or maybe even 'happy blues'!?! Sounds crazy, but the music has a certain snap to it that really energizes. It is deeply soulful music without the weight. I have his other albums, and believe this album is ESSENTIAL. It is Keb Mo unprocessed. (His later albums seem to be a sort of Keb Mo Velveeta...cryin' shame because I think this guy is the real deal.)
