Costello aficionados may already own the likes of the blood-and-guts live rendition of 'Uncomplicated' and the two admirable recordings of the Charlie Chaplin-penned/Nat 'King' Cole-covered 'Smile'--one dripping with strings, sax, and theatrical stardust and the other more plaintive), which Costello recorded for the Japanese TV drama 100 Million Stars Falling from the Sky.
Buyer Reviews : A finr companion to his latt album: The unreleased (in the USA) song 'When I Was Cuel (no. 1)' is classic Costello and SHOULD have been on WHEN I WAS CRUEL- the two versions of 'Smile' are likable, especially if you liked EC's covers of 'She' & 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again'. The live cuts are quite god: 'Almost Blue'is given a meditative reading, 'Uncomlpicated' fits right in with his current sound, 'Watching The Detectives' is modernized. The hodgepodge CD also includes cool remixes of CRUEL songs, a hidden bonus remix of 'Soul For Hire' & a video for '45'.
