Frontman Stephan Jenkins engages in some artistic bloodletting here, opening a vein and allowing all the anguish he's experienced over the last few years to spill into these songs. Twelve of the 14 compositions find Jenkins recounting his messy breakup with South African actress Charlize Theron. He veers from attempting to lure her back with facile wordplay and exhaustive sexual promises to being haunted by her cover-girl face every time he passes a newsstand. He even conjures her face before he hits the pavement on 'My Hit and Run,' which chronicles a motorcycle accident. To his credit, Jenkins is much more interesting a songwriter when he's wounded, offering candor that's not evident on TEB's first two discs. --Jaan Uhelszki
Buyer Reviews : Yo I don't know what's up with all these people rating 3eb's new album 4-5 stars, ' the greatest CD ever'. ALthough 3eb is probably my favorite band to date, since they came out with selt-titled album in 1997, :out of the vein' lef tme sadly dissapointed. The follow up album, 'Blue', was in my mind a lyrical and experimental success. In 'Blue', the guys don't hesitate to try new sounds and new moods to their songs. For instance, 'camouflage', 'slow motion' (unedited), 'darwin' are eclectic and unique songs, that take listeneners on a melodic trip, listening meticulously to every lyric and note. But now with 'out of the vein' 3eb pusssied out. Their sounds has been manufactured and filtered. Although i really dig some of catchy songs such as 'faster', 'palm reader' and 'my hit and run', i can't listen to the album in its entirety without cringing at times. Go check it out, still a CD worth buying, but i haven't 'fallen in love' with the heavy poppiness of this album like my fellow reviewers. and whatever happened to realeasing 'invisible', ah I'd kill to here a solid crisp version of that song. peace
