Buyer Reviews : I already rated the 1997 edition of this collection a while back. Where as that one is a relative cash-in on the fanbase the 2002 version is an improvement over that one with a stronger selection of tracks. The Police song selection is relatively predictable but unfortunately with added tracks, they failed to include 'King Of Pain' as it's almost as strong as their huge 1983 smash 'Every Breath You Take'.
It's great that they've had the wits to include the mysterious 'Fragile' on here as it's truly one of the strongest and most enduring tracks that Sting has ever recorded and performed. It also propels this collection from a three star to a four star as it kind of IMO replaces the disasterous 1997 remix version of Roxanne which I do not like at all. Unfortunately even with the new tracks added this collection is still IMO, superflous and somewhat muddled up that doesn't do the Police or Sting himself much justice as they both have put out so much more music and what is on here is far from the true spectrum of what they've produced in the past 25 years and to compress two artists songs onto one CD is virtually impossible as Sting himself has many strong songs that the record company have failed to put on here and with the 2002 re-issue I'm suprised that they didn't put Desert Rose, the due with Algerian Singer Cheb Mami on here nor Brand New Day as they are among Stings best songs in many years. Why record companies do this is beyond me.
I moderately recommend this to those who are not too familiar to Sting or The Police but for those like myself who are familiar to Sting or the Polices music, this CD isn't the best place to start. The best bet I suggest is to buy all of the Polices individual albums or the Every Breath You Take:The Classics CD.As for Stings solo albums, the ones I highly reccomend are the mysteriously beautiful Dream Of Blue Turtles & Nothing Like The Sun, Ten Sumners Tales, and the trip-hop flavored masterpiece Brand New Day and then build up your Sting & Police collection from there to get what you'd call 'The Very Best of Sting & The Polices as this so-called 'Very Best Of' is more of a sampler CD than an actual best of CD.
