Grant's Christian beliefs have been incorporated into her music for years, and maybe it's the artistic translation of the depth of her faith that makes these songs so inspiring. 'Emmanuel' and 'Angels We Have Heard on High' have Grant's vocals soaring, especially on the sustained chorus of the latter. Her country roots show nicely in 'Tennessee Christmas,' while 'Sleigh Ride' is as fun as it is romantic. 'Heirlooms' is particularly poignant--maybe not to the point of 'hand me a tissue,' but it's powerful all the same. A must for fans, and a good holiday addition for those looking for a Christmas record that comes without the cobwebs.
Buyer Reviews : In my household, listening to the Christmas music of Amy Grant has become a type of annual tradition. Each time the beginning of December rolls around, I check all three of Grant's Christmas albums out of the library and I listen to them for the entire month. I've been doing this for three years now, and I'm not even close to being tired of the music. Honestly, I can't say that I happen to like one of them more than the rest. 'A Christmas Album,' which was Grant's first Christmas release, has some very original music on it. My favorite songs were 'Tennessee Christmas,' 'Little Town,' 'Love Has Come,' and 'Heirlooms.' They were all written by Grant; she writes excellent holiday tunes. 'Tennessee Christmas' is probably the best song on the CD and one of my favorite Christmas songs (even though I live in Ohio!) simply because it's such a charming, heart-warming song. In fact, the reason why I like Grant's Christmas music so much is not only because it is the style of music that I normally listen to, but also because it is so cheerful and uplifting. I recommend 'A Christmas Album' to all fans of both Amy Grant's music and the holiday season. The mixture of an excellent artist with a joyful holiday makes a very powerful combination.
