It's hardly a stretch to say that Antonio Carlos Jobim--the wonderful Brazilian composer almost single-handedly responsible for all things bossa nova--influenced some of past half century's best and most insipid musics, from bossa nova jazz to elevator Muzak. Wave, a collection of 1967 dates featuring keyboardist Jobim backed by an extensive orchestra, straddles that line: it's full of amazing original compositions, but the arrangements have a certain faux suave, late-'60s lounge feel that reeks of stale cheese. This poet, painter, and former lawyer from Asti, Italy, has been dazzling Italian audiences since the early 1970s but has just blazed into U.S. consciousness like a meteor with his Best Of debut album on Nonsesuch. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this CD! It was a risky purchase since I didn't recognize the artists, but it was definitely worth it. All of the songs on South America:Chile are excellent. The songs I enjoyed the most were Alturas, Toro Mata, La Palmatoria, and both Violeta Parra songs. I agree completely with the other review of this CD - Mejia's voice is wonderful. I highly recommend this CD for all Chilean music lovers! (by ... Regular Price : $5.49

He ended up making a thrilling debut. This impromptu CD was cut in a day, and its limber ... Regular Price : $17.98

Being a pop icon is nothing new to the Grammy-winning, Puerto Rican singer/actor Ricky Martin. He was a child star with the '80s kid group Menudo. And he was a regular on the soap opera General Hospital. But he hit the big time in 1999 with his smash Anglo hit Livin’ la Vida Loca. On his new CD, Martin returns to his Hispanic roots with this zesty Spanish language release, which translates as Souls of Silence. Backed by poetic and ... Regular Price : $16.98
